The Tuscan climate is ideal for year-round cycling. April/May is a popular time for biking tours thanks to comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds. The weather remains pleasant through to September/October, with high temperatures and larger crowds throughout the summer. July and August are the hottest months, so if you don’t cope well with the heat, consider a guided cycling tour earlier or later in the year.
If you want to experience local traditions and events, our biking club recommends visiting around July 2nd and August 16th for the Palio di Siena, or at the end of October/beginning of November for the olive harvest. We can arrange special cycling tour packages around these dates.
From Chianti cycling tours to iconic bike rides through Pietraviva, Biking with Leonardo takes care of the finer details. This means you don’t have to worry about booking accommodation, bike rental, planning the route for optimal cycling sightseeing or finding somewhere for lunch. However, there are still some things you can do to ensure your holiday goes smoothly.
Our biking tours can include bicycle hire, but you may wish to bring your own bike. In this case, make sure you have the right bike for the type of terrain you will be riding on. Our biking club also advises tuning your bike before your travel to prevent issues when you arrive in Tuscany.
The right clothing and gear will make your trip much more enjoyable. Pack clothes you’re comfortable cycling in and check the weather forecast ahead of time to pack appropriately. A light jacket is advisable for long descents and unexpected showers. In summer, keep yourself safe from the sun with UV-protective clothing and sun cream.
Cycle touring clothing is highly recommended, including:
Cycling long distances is physically challenging. Make sure you are suitably fit for your planned itinerary – this will allow you to fully enjoy the experience and ensure you can finish the route. If you are new to touring or have not previously cycled the distance of the planned route, we advise building stamina and mileage before your trip.
Cycling tour packages that include a biking guide are the most convenient and stress-free option for cycling sightseeing. Let Biking with Leonardo bring your dream bike tour to life. We offer:
